Madstar Mobile sponsors MMA Legend Ken Shamrock
"The Godfather of MMA" and the icon of the sport, Ken Shamrock, The World's Most Dangerous Man, climbed back into the ring tonight. This was not some simple "hey let's have a fight" but the rematch that the MMA world has been awaiting for years. Ken fought Kimbo Slice. I am not a sports reporter, and I'm certainly not pretending to be. I don't want to rehash what the internet says or try to be an expert. I won't do it. I will tell you that I drove all the way here to St. Louis, MO from New Milford, CT in my Jeep Wrangler with one passenger for an overnight stay for JUST this fight. The fight lasted 2 minutes and 22 seconds. Some might say it's crazy. It's nuts. Heck, it sounds foolish. Not for this guy. It's an experience I won't soon forget and I hope it translates well to this blog post. The map says 16 hours of drive time. Gas. food. Silly videos (which can all be seen, documented on the Madstar Mobile Facebook page) it never takes that much time. So our in house attorney, Tyler Balding and we hit the road for a weekend adventure. We intended to enjoy a trip, but also to test service of Madstar Mobile in real life situations, and to talk to random truck stop people. We are friendly guys, so why not chat it up. What we found is that the service was better than we had even expected and brought a competitor's phone along to compare. There was no comparison. None. AND we found out that people are very friendly and like to complain about crappy service from bad cellular providers. Even those who thought they had good service were blown away at the price comparison. We stopped at a #Culvers restaurant with their world famous butter burgers and turtle custard sundaes. Amazing, by the way. But we overheard a family discussion phone issues sitting next to us, We had to talk to them about what we do and how we can help them make the best choice for them and save a few dollars. The woman had recently lost her mother and was trying to figure out how she would pay off her mother's phone, didn't know how to access the iTunes account and was not "tech savvy." Just having a real person to discuss this was a relief. She went into one of her local stores and they only tried to upsell her on the same plan and extend the contract. I don't get how these companies are thriving when they treat people this way. So we find ourselves fighting through tropical Storm Bill to get here, and tomorrow we face it back too. We did however detour through Louisville, KY last night and found some great people (and amazing service, for the record) and drove past Big Bone Lick State Park. Look it up, it's a real place. Cincinnati, Canton, Dayton ... we even drove through Santa Claus, Indiana. I was amazed at just how receptive people were to who we are and what we do. There;s a calling out these for a new provider and I firmly believe that we are offering the right thing at the right time. It made me feel great about what we do. I can't wait for the drive home to see who we meet there too. As for the fight, well Ken had one heck of a rear naked choke on Kimbo, but unfortunately Kimbo was able to get out and deliver a tough blow taking Ken down. Ken Shamrock fought tonight at 51 years young and looked better than most 30 year old guys. Ken Shamrock is an inspiration and a testament to hard work and determination, focused on a goal and doing all we can to achieve that goal. Just to get in that ring and truly compete takes more "testicular fortitude" than I'll even know and I was a firefighter. Not that i expect Ken to read this but I am so incredibly proud of him. As a man. As a fighter. We don't always win each and every fight in our lives, but we fight hard, we stand in there and if we get knocked down, we get back up. We learn from it, we move forward and we're stronger because of it. Ken's class and sportsmanship after the fight as well was encouraging and heart felt. A man of character and class. I speak for everyone here at Madstar Mobile in saying how proud we are to have been a small part of the fight in sponsoring Ken. I am proud to have sat in the stands and lose my voice cheering him on. Thank you to all of the people we met on the road from funny waitresses, toll booth clerks, and gas station attendants for listening us talk about how proud we are of Madstar Mobile. And to the kid in Wendy's ... Colin ... when you switch, the next frosty is on me.
